My name is Valerie.
I’ve had cats my entire life. In over 50 years, there are probably less than six months in total where I had no cats.
I’m a married mother of two boys, one of whom has Down syndrome and one of whom doesn’t. I’m a Jersey girl and have lived here all of my life except for 2 years spent in New Hampshire. Our family currently has three cats and one 60-lb Lab mix.
One of our three cats is a rescue named Willy that I adopted about five years ago. It was at this time I learned that not all rescues are honorable. I found myself fighting for Willy’s life. During this time I started fostering kittens for a local rescue, in order to help repay kindnesses shown me as I was trying to navigate Willy’s illness.
I have fostered many cats and kittens. I’m always happy to receive updates on my foster kittens, which are often accompanied by messages saying the family is grateful for the time and effort I spent raising their kittens.
Any cat in my home, whether my own or ones I am fostering, receives loving care and affection and is treated like family. As a cat sitter, the same goes for my client’s cats.
Over the years I have helped care for the pets of both family and friends while they traveled. It wasn’t until I performed some cat sitting duties for the rescue that I realized I would love to work with cats. I mean, who wouldn’t want to pet all of the cats, right!
Traveling when you have a cat can be challenging. Many cats don’t do well in certain boarding situations, due to the unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells in a strange environment. And, many boarding facilities aren’t equipped to spend one on one quality time with your pet. I decided to form Jersey Shore Cat Sitter to provide an alternative for the cat owners of my community, a service that would help provide some peace of mind for both you and your cats.
